Elderly man searching for family roots

on Tuesday, 23 January 2018. Posted in Good life, News, Arts & Culture, Local News

My name is Wayne, I’m 73 years old and trying to locate information and pictures of my grandfather whom I never met. He was my father’s dad.

He was born in Society Hill, Darlington County, August 1, 1893 and lived there most of his life. He was married to Hilda Francis Pelzer Coker. They had three children, Eugenia who passed when she was 12, Lewis William Coker (my father) and Rosemarie Coker. My father and aunt have both passed within the last 10 years. I’ve only been able to find out that he had many relatives in that area and that the family was well known. Lewis Maxwell Coker passed June 6, 1962 in District of Columbia and he may be buried at the Congressional Cemetery in DC. He was the son of Thomas Holloway Coker (1846-1920) and Elizabeth Hart Coker (1855-1936). I believe he worked on the water and traveled from SC to Pennsylvania (where he met my grandmother, his wife). I’m hoping to find relatives on my dad’s side before I pass. Any suggestions, assistance and cooperation in this matter will truly be appreciated. Never being in the area or knowing any relatives on my father’s side I’m at a loss where I can start.

Some last names I have found in relation to my search are Harts, Lides, Holloways, Fountains and McClendons.

Any suggestions and/or help to find information, relatives, and pictures of him will be appreciated. You may email me at wjm108@gmail. com. Thank you in advance.
