Chicken bog benefit for Vance
Vance Odom is a native of Hartsville, and resides with his parents, Danny and Marsha Odom. He was once very active in music and sports and was also very mission minded, going on many mission trips in the U.S. and other countries. On one of these trips, he adopted a young boy and helped support him for many years with his allowance. He loved skydiving, restoring his old Corvette with his dad, zip lining, fishing, shooting and cross country running.
On January 25, 2013, Vance and two of his friends were in a serious automobile crash. He was rushed to the McLeod Trauma Unit and was not expected to survive. His jaw was broken, hip was badly dislocated, and the C5 vertebra in his neck was crushed paralyzing him from the chest down. He remained in the trauma unit for two weeks and was then transferred by jet ambulance to the Shepherd Center ICU in Atlanta, Georgia, a facility specializing in spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries. He and has family spent three months at Shepherd learning a new way of life. Vance is currently finishing his sophomore year at Coker College majoring in computer science.
Cooks for Christ is raising funds to build a handicapped bathroom to meet Vance’s daily needs and to rebuild a decaying ramp.
Vance’s benefit will be held on Thursday, May 24, at the West Florence Fire Station on Pine Needles Road in Florence. Lunch will be served from 11a.m. until 2 p.m. and dinner will be served from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Drive through lanes will be open for your convenience and a bake sale will be held all day. Plates are $7 each. Lunch and dinner can be delivered for orders of seven (7) plates or more. To schedule a delivery, please complete a delivery form and fax or email according to instructions provided on the form. The menu consists of chicken bog, green beans, slaw and bread.
