Foxes take down Falcons

For the second week in a row, the Hartsville Red Fox offense used explosive plays on offense, and a stingy defense to dominate the Falcons of A.C. Flora in the second round of the 4A lower state playoffs. After forcing a put on Flora's first possession, the Foxes struck quickly with Tiyon Evans scoring on a 57 yard run.
Miller Braddock's point after touchdown was blocked, and Hartsville led 6-0 at 10:06 mark in the quarter. After another punt by Flora, the Foxes struck quickly again. After a JC Clair touchdown run was negated by a penalty, Evans scored again from 57 yards out. Braddock's point after touchdown was good and it was 13-0.
Both teams exchanged punts, and the Falcons got a drive going that ended with a 30 yard field goal that made it 13-3 as the first quarter ended. The second quarter was all Hartsville. The scoring began with A.J. Joyner connecting with Steve Joyner on a touchdown pass that started the to 20-3 after Braddock's point after touchdown.
After another Flora punt, the Foxes behind the running of Evans and Clair, get on the board again with Clair running it in from 7 yards out with the point after touchdown, the Foxes led 27-3 with 6:20 left before half. After the defense forced another punt another Joyner to Joyner connection from 47 yards out made it 34-3.
Flora moved to the Red Foxes 31 yard line before turning it over on downs. Evans struck again this time 69 yard touchdown run that made it 41-3 at halftime. In the third quarter, Clair had another touchdown wiped out by a penalty and Hartsville turned it over on downs, the Flora 19 yard line.
The Falcons got a couple of first downs before punting it back to the Foxes. On second down, Clair exploded for a 60 yard touchdown run, making it 48-3. After pinning the Falcons deep inside the 5 yard line after the kickoff the Falcons got on the board with a 99 yard touchdown pass on 3rd and 11 with less than a minute left in the third quarter.
With a 48-10 score, the fourth quarter was played with running clock and backups getting some playing time. With the win, the Foxes will now play Orangeburg Wilkerson at home Friday at 7:30. With the offense back on track and the defense playing well, the Foxes hope to continue their play off run.
The Shug's Smokehouse offensive player of the game was JC Clair with 12 carries for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns, a big part of the Red Foxes 616 yards of total offense on the night. The Shug's Smokehouse defensive player of the game was Logan Carpenter with 11 tackles of the leading a strong defensive effort by the Red Foxes.
