Red Foxes roll over Hilton Head

By Coach Jimmy White

The Hilton Head Seahawks had to make the long trip to Kelleytown Stadium to take on the Hartsville Red Foxes in the 4-A State Playoffs last Friday. The trip back seemed much longer after the Foxes defeated them 77-10 in the first round match up. Hartsville will host the second game against A.C. Flora on November 24th at 7:30.

Hilton Head took the opening kickoff and drove 56 yards in 13 plays to get on the board and a 1 yard run by Shrine Bowler Bryce Singleton to take a 7-0 lead. The Red Foxes answered with a 65 yard drive capped off by JC Clair’s 4 yard touchdown run. Miller Braddock kicked the first of his 11 straight extra points to tie it 7-7. On the Seahawks next possession, the Red Fox defense forced a 3 and out with the Foxes taking possession on their 37 yard line.

Behind good blocking, the Foxes moved down the field until A.J. Joyner ran it in from 1 yard out. The PAT made it 14-7 with 1:05 left in the first quarter. The next Hilton Head possession ended with a blocked punt. The Foxes recovered in the end zone and Braddock’s PAT made it 21-7. Hilton Head moved down the field on their next possession, but were forced to kick a 30 yard field goal making it 21-10.

From there, Hilton Head no longer posed a threat, as the Foxes scored 8 touchdowns in a row and the rout was on. Behind the running of JC Clair and Tiyon Evans, the Foxes moved easily down the field, with Evans scoring from 4 yards out. After another 3 and out the Seahawks had another punt blocked with Jalen Jacobs returning it 8 yards for a touchdown.

Hartsville’s next possession started on their 34 yard line after forcing another punt. They struck quickly with a 66 yard touchdown pass from AJ Joyner to Steve Joyner on the first play. The PAT made it 42-10 with 3:53 still remaining in the first half. After recovering a Seahawk fumble on the 13 yard line, JC Clair scored on the first play making it 49-10 with three minutes left in the half.

The next possession for Hilton head was a disaster as Jaylen Evans intercepted a pass returning it 19 yards for another Red Fox touchdown. The half ended with Hartsville ahead 56-10. With a running in the second half, the Foxes hit pay dirt quickly, as Tiyon Evans ran the kickoff back to Hilton Head’s 18 yard line.

After a penalty, Darius Rhodes ran it in from 9 yards out making it 63-10. In the forth quarter, the Foxes scored on a Jalen Jacobs 21 yard touchdown run making it 70-10. Rhodes then scored from 41 yards out to cap the scoring with his second touchdown, and the final score was 77-10. The Red Foxes rushed for 369 yards and 29 carries, led by JC Clair’s 157 yards and three touchdowns.

They also scored on an interception and two blocked punts to completely outclass the Hilton Head Seahawks. The Shug's Smokehouse Offensive Player of the game was Miller Braddock for his perfect 11-11 extra points on the night. The Shug’s Smokehouse Defensive Player of the Game was DJ Montgomery for his outstanding defensive line play. Come out and support the Foxes as they take on the A.C. Flora Falcons. See you there.
