Foxes defeat Demons
The Hartsville Red Foxes won a big conference game on homecoming with a 33-10 victory over the visiting Lugoff-Elgin Demons. The win ran the Red Foxes record to 7-1 and 2-0 in the conference. Lugoff dropped to 5-3 with a 2-1 conference.
The game got off to an explosive start as Tiyon Evans put the Foxes on the board with a 55 yard TD run on the game’s first play. The PAT was blocked and the Foxes led 6-0. In the ensuing kickoff the Demons answered with a 91 yard return for a TD by Gatlin Lawson.
The PAT was good and Lugoff led 7-6. The Red Fox defense set the tone after Lugoff got the ball back by forcing a 3 and out punt. The Lugoff defense also forced a punt after the Foxes were not able to move the ball, a result of several penalties.
In the second quarter the Red Fox offense began to move the ball, mostly on the ground. The drive ended with a 35 yard TD run by Donovan Lambert. The PAT was no good and the Foxes led 12-7. Lugoff was unable to move the ball on the next drive and the Foxes took over on the Demon 49 yard line.
On the first play Collins Bishop ran it into the endzone and the Foxes led 19-7 after Caldwell’s PAT. The Foxes then executed a perfect onside kick, taking over on Lugoff’s 41 yard line. They moved inside the 5 yard line, but had a TD run called back for holding.
The next play was a 14 yard TD pass that also was called back because of a penalty. The penalty-filled quarter ended with the Foxes on their 39 yard line after starting on the Demon’s 26 yard line.
The Foxes led 19-7 at the half. The second half began with the Demons moving downfield, aided by penalties, before kicking a 25 yard field goal, cutting the Foxes’ lead to 19-10. The Foxes answered with a Donovan Lambert TD run. Caldwell converted the PAT and Hartsville led 26-10.
Lugoff started a drive but Kashari Pooler intercepted a pass giving the ball back to the Foxes on their 42 yard line. The Foxes were unable to move and the Demons moved into Red Fox territory on a drive that ended with a Rod Gattison interception on the Hartsville 11 yard line.
The Foxes moved to near midfield and Tiyon Evans ran 56 yards for another Red Fox touchdown. Once again the Caldwell extra point was good and the Foxes led 33-10 as the third quarter ended. The fourth quarter saw a long Lugoff drive to the Foxes’ 5 yard line before a fumble recovery and return by Kevin Haigler moved the ball near midfield.
The Foxes moved inside the Demons 30 yard line before stalling, giving the ball back to Lugoff. After a short drive, the Red Fox defense got the ball back with 1:10 left in the game. The Foxes ran out the clock for the 33-10 win. The Bizzell’s Offensive Player of the game was Tiyon Evans who rushed for 197 yards and 2 TD’s.
The Bizzell’s Defensive Player of the game was Jaquez Brockington whose seven tackles led the strong game by the Foxes’ defense. Next week Hartsville travels to Crestwood to take on the Knights in a 7:30 game. Go out and support the team.
