Iowa Gov. Reynolds signed a 6-week abortion ban at the Leadership Summit, held by the Family Leader and Bob Vander Plaats. She aims to protect a post-Roe’s world that was affected by abortion culture.
Reynolds states the pro-life movement is an important human right, adding she’ll keep on fighting for supporting parenting, motherhood and fatherhood. She also said that the Supreme Court’s deadlock on the ban was a failure.
The bill limits abortion once cardiac activity is detected, except for rape and incest cases – in which they’re required to report to the appropriate authorities and health agency.

Challenges And Criticisms

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre criticized the sign as harsh since it will prevent access to life-saving care, adding that they’ll continue to fight attempts to pass a ban. Several advocacy groups shared her sentiment.
The Planned Parenthood of the Heartland, Emma Goldman Clinic, and American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa criticized the signage as well – citing that despite the claimed exceptions, it still refuses them for accessing proper healthcare.
They argued it rid of individuals’ reproductive freedom, as a majority won’t even realize their pregnancy that early. They added it will significantly affect patients and abortion clinics. Officials said these clinics stayed open until 10 pm.
They protested at the capitol, while also mentioning they’ll hold officials accountable for their votes. Similarly, Ohio and South Carolina, who also passed the ban, were facing challenges from the public as well.
Despite all of those challenges, Reynolds remained confident in her decision despite some people trying to prevent it again. Polls still showed that a majority of Iowans supported abortion rights
Former Vice President Mike Pence praised her and her plan, referring to this moment as a historical event for Iowa. While former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley described Reynolds’ decision as being extremely well.
