As she raced at them brandishing two knives after making a suicide threat inside an apartment, Florida police officers opened fire, killing the lady, according to officials on Friday.
According to Orlando police, the woman’s boyfriend reported his girlfriend’s suicidal and self-immolation threats by calling 911. She allegedly had a knife and was threatening to use it, according to him.
As officers were being sent to the scene, according to investigators, a trained member of the Crisis Negotiation Team called the woman.
Officers with crisis intervention training arrived at the Lake Nona, Florida apartment building at 1 p.m. and made an effort to speak with the upset woman.
According to the authorities, the woman briefly exited the flat while brandishing a knife during the negotiations before returning. She apparently returned a second time, this time with two knives, and charged at the officers, which caused them to shoot her.
The Orlando Fire Department declared her deceased on the spot.
Authorities said that at the time of the incident, the cops were not holding their tasers.
The two policemen who shot and killed the lady have been placed on administrative leave, as is customary in officer-involved shootings, according to a representative for Fox 35. The shooting is also being looked at by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
The body camera footage, which was captured by the deputies, will be made available to the public in 30 days. Police or the woman’s relatives have not released any information about the woman’s age or name.
