Six German visitors were detained by police on Thursday in Playa de Palma, Mallorca, Spain, following an alleged gang rape that occurred in a hotel room that morning. All of the men being held are between the ages of 20 and 21.

Mallorca is a popular tourist destination in Europe due to its Mediterranean beaches, wines, and nightlife.

The female victim, who was also on holiday, went to Playa de Palma Boulevard on Wednesday night with a group of her friends, which is known for its bar and club scene. According to The Associated Press, she met one of the German suspects and had a drink with him before returning to his hotel room.

She told the police that she tried to exit the hotel room but was stopped by the suspects. The adolescent was then allegedly raped by several of the perpetrators. According to the woman’s testimony to police, the event happened at 3:40 am on Thursday.

She eventually managed to escape, alerting the hotel’s receptionist who made a call to the police.

When the police arrived, they detained five of the males. Despite eluding capture, the sixth suspect was apprehended later on Thursday.

Under Spanish law, gang rape carries a maximum 15-year prison term.

According to the Daily Mail, a British tourist was detained in May at Mallorca’s Palma Airport on suspicion of raping his son’s female friend and attempting to exit the country. The Scottish Sun said that a second British traveller was detained at the same airport last week on suspicion of raping his fiancée in their hotel room on the island.
