A heart-wrenching incident unfolded at an apartment complex in Texas, where a 25-year-old mother tragically lost her life during a custody exchange. According to the Houston Police Department, the woman was shot and killed by her child’s father during a heated argument.
The incident, which occurred on a fateful Sunday evening, has left the community in shock and grief. On Sunday, July 23, at approximately 9:45 pm., officers from the Houston Police Department responded to a distressing call at an apartment complex.
Upon arrival, they discovered the lifeless body of a young woman in the parking lot. The victim was identified as a 25-year-old mother who had come to the complex to pick up her 2-year-old son. As per reports from KPRC and KTRK, the situation escalated when an argument erupted between the mother and the 23-year-old father of the child.
Adding to the grim circumstances, the woman was in the company of her new boyfriend and another woman holding a 16-day-old baby. Tragically, in the heat of the altercation, the father pulled out a firearm and fatally shot the mother.
Upon committing the crime, the 23-year-old father fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. However, with the help of an HPD K-9 unit, police managed to track down a male matching the suspect’s description approximately one block away from the apartment complex. The father was found dead, suspected to have taken his own life.

According to Lieutenant J.P. Horelica’s statement to KTRK, the 2-year-old child was thankfully unharmed in the incident and did not witness the tragic event. Other family members are currently responsible for the child.
The sorrowful events did not end there, as the shooting also resulted in injury to an innocent newborn. The baby, who was only 16 days old, suffered injuries from shattered glass during the incident. Authorities reported that the injured newborn was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, as reported by KRIV.
