In connection with the shooting death of a 12-year-old in St. Paul, Minnesota, police on Sunday announced the arrest of a 14-year-old.
According to St. Paul police, the 14-year-old is being held in a juvenile detention facility on a manslaughter charge. He has not been named by the police.
Police reported that after being transferred to a nearby hospital, the victim passed away. The 12-year-old has been recognised by their family as Markee Jones, according to KSTP-TV.
Jones, according to Martez Hill, was shot while attending a birthday party. About 14 children, he claimed, were enjoying a sleepover. According to Hill, they were tinkering with a gun when it went off.
“This should’ve never happened,” he told KSTP-TV.
“I hope this brings a lot of attention to people who have firearms to make sure you keep your gun safely locked away,” Jones’ aunt Lakrisha Hill said. “Kids are curious, and now I have a nephew to bury because of somebody else’s mistake.”
