Nestle USA has issued a voluntary recall of certain Toll House chocolate chip cookie dough ‘break and bake’ products due to the presence of wood particles. Although no illnesses or injuries have been reported, the company issued the recall ‘out of an abundance of caution’ after receiving complaints from consumers about wood fragments in the bars. Nestle, the world’s largest food and beverage company, stated that the recall is limited to two quantities of Toll House ‘break and bake’ bar products manufactured on April 24 and 25 of this year.
Consumers who purchased chocolate chip cookie dough bars with the batch codes 311457531K and 311557534K are urged not to consume them and to return them for a replacement or refund. Nestle, which sells products in 188 countries around the world, stated that it is working with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and will cooperate completely with them.

Nestle USA’s spokesperson stated, “We are confident that this is an isolated incident, and we have taken appropriate action. “The quality, safety, and reliability of our products continue to be our top priority. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience our consumers and retail customers may experience as a result of this action. Despite the fact that ingesting wood fragments may no longer always result in severe problems, it could contribute to infections.
Sharper fragments of wood could cause injury to the throat, tongue, and intestines, among other organs of the digestive system. Nestle was forced to issue a second voluntary recall for its refrigerated, ready-to-bake Nestle Toll House Stuffed Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Fudge Filling in October due to the ‘potential presence of white plastic fragments.’
And in 2019, the Virginia-based company had to recall 26 packages of its ready-to-bake Toll House Cookie Dough products “due to the possible presence of food-grade rubber pieces.” Products were shipped across the United States and to Puerto Rico, but the number of affected states is unclear. Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, customers who require additional assistance should call Nestle USA at (800) 681-1678.
