11-Year-Old Arrested for Bringing Handgun to Florida Elementary School


An 11-year-old was apprehended and alleged to have brought a firearm to a school in Jacksonville, Florida, last week, according to officials.

Three Beauclerc Elementary School pupils reportedly informed a teacher on February 5 that the 11-year-old was in possession of a 9 mm handgun, according to an arrest report from the Jacksonville County Sheriff’s Office.

The teacher was informed by witnesses that the child was observed in the lavatory manipulating the slide of the handgun while brandishing it, according to the report. The weapon was discovered by school staff members during a search of the child’s belongings.

An officer from the Duval School Board discovered a concerning text message on a child’s phone. The message, which was sent the day before, contained a threat to kill someone, according to authorities.

Child Apprehended for Threatening Behavior on School Grounds

A written threat to murder and suspicion of possessing a weapon on school property led to the child’s apprehension and detention at the Duval Regional Juvenile Detention Center, according to the arrest report.
