FMU hosts spring career fair

Francis Marion University’s Office of Career Development will host its spring 2015 Career Fair on Wednesday, April 8, at noon in the Smith University Center Commons. Local, state, and regional businesses and schools are expected to participate at the fair. The fair will offer employment information and opportunities for FMU students who are seeking internships and part-time employment. It will also include career networking opportunities for FMU seniors and alumni who are seeking full-time employment. All FMU students and alumni are invited to meet employers and apply for available positions.

Marine Corps League to meet

The Marine Corps League monthly meeting is April 14 at the Elks lodge, 2220 W. Jody Rd. The 2015 officers will be installed at this meeting. Upcoming events are the Camp Lejuene Expo, April 22 and 23 and the Marine Corps Junior ROTC Awards. The league is looking for a few good members. If you are an honorably discharged Marine or Navy Corpsmen come to the monthly meeting and check us out. You may find us on Facebook at MC League Julian D. Dusenbury Detachment 410 The league meets every third Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

NCNW meets April 21

DARLINGTON – The Darlington County Section of the National Council Of Negro Women (NCNW) will be meeting in the Man Stanley Gym meeting room, 100 Magnolia Street on Tuesday, April 21, at 4:30 pm. Plans are being made for the 2015 Ebony Pearls of Darlington County, The Mary McLeod Bethune walkathon, Relay For Life participation, and regular business. Mother, Son Dance Extravaganza planned for October 9th

FLORENCE – October 9 promises to be an evening to remember as mothers and sons come together over music, dancing, games, and fun at House of Hope of the Pee Dee’s 3rd Annual Mother & Son Dance Extravaganza. The event will be held on Friday evening, Oct. 9, from 7-10 p.m. at St. John’s Church in downtown Florence. There will be dancing, desserts, carnival games, raffles for Mom and son, and the opportunity to remember the evening by having family photos taken.

Tickets are $30 per family which means Mom can bring all her sons for this evening of fun. To purchase your ticket, contact Ellen Knight at the House of Hope by emailing eknight@hofh. org or calling 843-667-9000. Check us out on Facebook for more information. All proceeds go to the House of Hope of the Pee Dee, a Christian ministry that has been providing support for men, women and their children for more than 20 years. SC Sweet Potato Festival

DARLINGTON – Featuring TV personality Greg Rowles as emcee and entertainer, the S.C. Sweet Potato Festival includes more than 100 craft, food, and arts vendors, live entertainment, music, puppets, exhibits, an antique car show, appearances by Spud, and plenty of funnel cakes and sweet potato pies! Pantry Party

We will be having  a Pantry Party Dec. 5th at 4pm at Second Baptist Church to raise funds to benefeit Te'Quan Coe as he prepare to go to perform at Carneige Hall February 4-8, 2016. The cost for his travel is very expensive and therefore financial support is needed. Donations can be given to SPC. Thsi is a once in a lifetime event for this young man to be able to perform on the Honors Orchestra
