Brenda Cranford School of Dance enters 37th dance season

The Brenda Cranford School of Dance proudly announces their 37th dance season and will hold registration and open house on August 14-17 and August 21-24 from 2-7 p.m. each day. The staff looks forward to seeing all the returning and new students at the studio located at 708 West Carolina Avenue.

The studio, under the direction of owner Brenda Cranford, was opened in 1981 and offers all levels of dance training in tap, jazz, ballet, hip hop, shag and ballroom for ages 2-adult. Special adult programs will be available this fall as well as the new addition of mixed martial arts for youth taught by certified coach Jerome Robinson of Sumter. The studio has plans to expand their location space in order to offer more classes in the arts for the surrounding area.

The BCSD staff this season consists of Brenda Cranford, Lynn Newsom, Tracee Auman, Ali Nelson, Devin Jennings, Sarah Floyd, Bethany Byrd and Shelbey Gray as well as visiting guest teachers for special choreography during the year. Kimberly Carr is the accounts and business manager and will be the front desk associate at BCSD.

The studio offers different levels of training for all dancers in recreational level and competitive level. New this season will be the performance team level which will enable dancers to have extra chances to perform at community events and festivals as well as the annual Spring Showcase.

The BCSD competition team enjoyed a very successful year scoring top awards at the various regional competitions they attended. They were awarded the top highest studio scoring award at Star Systems Regionals as well as the choreography award and numerous first place overalls in all the genres they competed in. BCSD is proud to announce that several numbers competed at Star Systems Nationals recently and were named national champions in the Sr. Duet Category and Top Sr. Soloist. Kenzie Griggs and Hannah Teal were the recipients of this honor and all groups attending scored the highest level, platinum placement and made the national over alls. The Elite Tap Company, choreographed by Jaimie Cranford was invited to perform again by request in the final showdown performance at the national event.

The studio will be hosting “THE” Ballet Intensive on August 14-15 taught by American Ballet Theater Teacher Curriculum certified Devin Jennings. Miss Jennings holds a master degree of Dance Education from NYU and serves as head ballet instructor at BCSD and is also on staff full time at Coker College. Miss Jennings is active in theater productions and will be playing the lead role of Belle in the Florence Little Theater’s production of Beauty and the Beast this September. “THE” Jazz Intensive will be held August 28-31 and will feature guest instructors, Troy Haywood, Erika Hogan, Mary Jane (MJ) Wolff, and Ali Nelson. All instructors all professional dance teachers and choreographers and the intensive is open to all area dance students. Dancers who wish to audition for placement in the BCSD Jazz Company must attend the intensive where they will be evaluated.

BCSD will host again for the fourth season, The Columbia City Ballet as they visit Hartsville to present The Nutcracker on Dec. 15. Auditions for all area dancers will be held Sept. 15 and more information on how dancers can be a part of this exciting professional production may contact the studio.
