Karl “Tiny” Alexander Memorial Golf Tournament, Silent Auction March 9th
Make your plans now to attend the 9th annual Karl “Tiny” Alexander Memorial Golf Tournament and Silent Auction on Saturday, March 9th at Fox Creek Golf Club located on Highway 15 between Hartsville and Bishopville on Tomahawk Road. The friends of the Karl E. Alexander Foundation invite you to come out and enjoy the festivities. Cost for the four member captain’s choice team is $300 ($75 per person).
The event gets started with breakfast and registration around 7:15 a.m. featuring biscuits from Mr. B’s, sausage from Tommy’s Self Service, and country ham and assorted pastries provided by friends of the foundation. The opening ceremony starts at 9 a.m. with Karl’s brother Wesley Alexander followed by the traditional “tee off” for the event by Blake Hancock, Karl’s best friend in high school, and Cole Brown, Karl’s best friend at Wofford College. Silent auction bids start at 9 a.m. also. Lunch will be served after 11 a.m. and features Boston Butt bog prepared by Earl McElveen, slaw, bread and cookies. The silent auction will close 15 minutes after the Putt for Cash competition for a chance to win $10,000. Also available is the opportunity for a golfer to win a car from Raceway Ford in Hartsville for the first hole in one at the designated hole.
Golfers will receive goodie bags from the foundation as a way to say thanks for participating in the tournament. Other prizes in the past for the first hole in one by a golfer include an electronics package, airline tickets in the continental United States and cruise tickets. There will also be awards for closest to the pin and longest drive. The top three teams will be awarded prize money: $1000 first place, $600 second place and $400 third place.
All the benefits from the event go to support the Karl E. Alexander Endowed Scholarship at Wofford College in Spartanburg. Three recipients of the scholarship have already graduated; Emily Gross of Greenville, Maddie Phillips of Spartanburg and Brendan Paschal of Charlotte, NC. Olivia Seay, a sophomore from Spartanburg, is the current recipient. To date, the event has raised over $169,000 toward the scholarship. The scholarship is open to any student planning to attend Wofford College. Bring a lawn chair and join Karl’s family for fun, food and fellowship as we celebrate Karl’s impact on the lives so many individuals in our community and on his fellow classmates at Wofford College.
