Bethea celebrates Dinner at the Dam

on Wednesday, 25 October 2017. Posted in Good life, News

On Thursday, October 5, Bethea Retirement Community celebrated Dinner at the Dam and honored donors who have assisted with funding for the repair of the lake and dam on their property. According to Bethea Executive Director, Benjamin Spurling, he and all his residents are excited about seeing the dam repaired, their lake back to its natural beauty, and Bethea Road reopened.

Bethea Retirement Community is a not for profit organization that began raising money to repair the lake and dam almost immediately after Hurricane Matthew destroyed it last October. Spurling said Thursday night “Not only is this lake a fun place for our families, this dam we are sitting on tonight is a vital connection for the residents of the Darlington and Florence communities as well as our Bethea Retirement Community residents.

Our yearly budget could not cover the cost of the many repairs we need for the dam and our lake so we have diligently been raising money for the project.” After the event on Thursday, almost $225,000 of the $300,000 needed to repair the dam and reopen the lake has been raised.

Spurling shared that work on the dam repair should begin early 2018. For questions about this project, please contact Benjamin Spurling at 843-395-4402. To make donations to Bethea Retirement Community’s Lake Restoration Project, please contact Annie Eveleigh, 803-227-6058 or ake@scbma. com.
