Lamar High School names Chad Wilkes new head varsity football coach
LAMAR, S.C. – Chad Wilkes will be the new head varsity football coach for the Lamar High School Silver Foxes, the Darlington County School District announced Thursday.
Wilkes is currently athletic director and head varsity football coach at C.E. Murray High School in Greeleyville.
“Through the interview process, I became extremely impressed with Coach Wilkes’ character and his work ethic,” Gainey said. “He brings successful experience to our school, and he understands the challenges that our student-athletes face. We look forward to our football programs’ continued success under his leadership.”
Wilkes took over as head coach at C.E. Murray two seasons ago and posted a total record of 17-6. In 2017, the team went 11-2 and won the Region 5-A title. That season, Wilkes was also named the Region 5-A Coach of the Year.
Previously, Wilkes worked as a cornerbacks coach at Sumter High School and a quarterbacks coach at Cheraw High School. Wilkes graduated from Cheraw High, and he was a member of two state championship football teams during his time there.
Wilkes served as a World Geography, Psychology and Sociology teacher at Cheraw High and a Current Events, Government and Economics teacher at C.E. Murray.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Clemson University.
