LEGO convention August 11 and 12 at Metropolitan Convention Center
LEGO artists from South Carolina will be displaying various LEGO creations at the BrickUniverse LEGO Fan Convention in downtown Columbia. The convention will take place at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center on August 11 and 12. LEGO displays by these artists include castles, cities, trains, and even stadiums.
Various adult fans will be displaying and attending the convention. They are adult fans of LEGO, referred to as “AFOLs”, who build, play, and display creations built with LEGO bricks. There are currently over 300 LEGO user groups for adult fans of LEGO around the world. In 2010, The LEGO Company estimated that there were around 40,000 AFOLs in the world. That number has dramatically increased with estimates from 200,000 to over 1,000,000. Famous AFOLs include David Beckham, Ed Sheeran, and Britney Spears who have all publicly talked about their affection for LEGO.
The local South Carolina LEGO artists have displayed their creations throughout South Carolina, and even beyond. They have won multiple awards for their displays, and their LEGO masterpieces will be some of the highlights of the BrickUniverse LEGO Convention. David Robinson, an alumni of the University of South Carolina, will be displaying his LEGO model of Williams-Brice Stadium that he built with his son with over 5,000 LEGO bricks. Other attractions include:
Massive LEGO displays: larger than life LEGO creations. LEGO friends building area: tons of LEGO friends bricks for building fun! Big brick building: younger visitors can explore imagination through building with larger LEGO Duplo bricks.
LEGO retail: purchase LEGO merchandise and goodies.
Professional LEGO artist: meet real-life master builders and see their amazing LEGO displays and so much more
