CareSOUTH Carolina to host free community event

CareSouth Carolina, Inc. and its supporting foundation, CareFIRST Carolina will host its annual Harvest of Health Festival and Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The free event is located on CareSouth Carolina’s campus at 1268 South Fourth Street, Hartsville.

Families and children of all ages are invited to participate. CareSouth Carolina will provide free food, drinks and bounce houses for the children. The parking lot will be filled with employees and partners of CareSouth Carolina during the Trunk or Treat. The children can participate in Halloween-themed games while they show off their costumes.

In addition, the medical staff will host a free health fair on-site. “We are excited to be hosting this fun community event. Trunk or Treat is a wonderful and safe way for our children to come out and trick or treat,” says Ann Lewis, CareSouth Carolina CEO. “This health celebration is CareSouth Carolina’s way of giving back to our community and letting everyone know what we do every day to help improve healthcare access.”

The event supports CareFIRST Carolina’s regional patient assistance program, Friends and Neighbors. A donation-based program developed to help CareSouth Carolina patients who need financial assistance for specialty healthcare. Local specialty providers, hospitals and service providers donate their time and talent for the patients referred through Friends and Neighbors, but the financial needs remain present.

The fund was established to assist CareSouth Carolina have access to the care they need. Our partners in this event include BlueChoice Health Plan of South Carolina, McKesson medical supplies, Carolina Bank, Herald Office supply, Molina Health Care, Hartsville IGA and others. There is an application process to benefit from the Friends and Neighbors fund.

To ensure the patients who need care the most are treated, the CareFIRST leadership follow a detailed approval process. Donations from the community help CareFIRST receive over $9.50 of services for every $1 of the Friends and Neighbors fund that is used. CareFIRST Carolina is a partner agency of the Hartsville, Dillon and Chesterfield United way programs.

The program has fostered community partnerships and benefited countless patients. The high number of employee and community gifts received has caused a ripple effect in the counties we serve as new local donors provide support.
