The City of Hartsville invites you to join a growing community movement to save an abandoned cemetery by participating in the Historic Marion Avenue Cemetery Preservation Workshop on September 23rd from 9 a.m. to noon. The workshop will be hosted by preservation experts and will begin with field demonstrations at the Marion Avenue Cemetery.

The group will then move to City Hall for further discussions on mapping and documenting graves, introduction to preservation strategies, and review of future plans for the cemetery. Attendees are urged to wear appropriate clothing for weather and outdoor/indoor setting. Additionally, community fundraising efforts have begun to help offset the cost of clearing the overgrowth at the cemetery.

Tax deductible donations for the preservation of the Historic Marion Avenue Cemetery may be made payable by cash or check to the City of Hartsville, memo: Marion Avenue Cemetery. Space is very limited. To RSVP your space or for additional information, contact Mary Catherine Farrell at This email address is being protected from spambots.
