Foxes advance to state

The Hartsville Red Foxes moved on to the state championship finals with a 49-24 win on the road against the Chapin Eagles this past Friday night. On a bitter cold night, the Red Foxes defense forced three turnovers, and the Foxes used big plays on offense to control the game. After taking the opening kickoff and moved down the field with a quick passing attack, before fumbling on the Foxes 25 yard line.
On the second play, A.J. Joyner connected with Steve Joyner for a 63 yard touchdown. Miller Braddock's first of seven extra points gave the Foxes a 7-0 lead. The next Chapin drive ended a DeMairius Cosom interception at the Foxes 33 yard line. Hartsville moved into Chapin territory before a sack and a penalty forced Hartsville to punt.
Chapin drove to the Hartsville 11 yard line before making a 28 yard field goal, cutting the lead to 7-3. In the 2nd quarter, the Foxed were forced to punt. Chapin quickly moved down the field, scoring on a 40 pass. The point after touchdown gave Chapin their only lead of the night 10-7 with 9:42 left before halftime. The lead was brief, as Tiyon Evans exploded for a 79 yard run to the Chapin 1 yard line.
A.J. Joyner ran it in the next play, and the Foxes regained the lead 14-10 at the 9:15 mark. Chapin's next drive got to the Foxes 35 before penalties pushed them back to midfield and a punt. Hartsville ran out the clock reaching halftime. JC Clair set the tone for the 2nd half by fielding the kickoff and racing 99 yards for the score.
The Foxes led 21-10 and the Eagles would never get any closer. Chapin fumbled on their next possession, and the Foxes cashed in with Evans 3 yard touchdown run, making the lead 28-10. The Eagles drove into Hartsville territory before being stopped on the 4th down play. Hartsville quickly scored again with a A.J. Joyner 53 yard touchdown pass to a wide open Steve Joyner for a 35-10 lead. The 4th quarter started with Chapin moving quickly down the field and scoring on a 21 yard pass making the score 35-17.
After a failed onside kick attempt, the Foxes took over on the Eagles 49. They scored on a 3 yard run by Clair, following a 30 yard completion from Joyner to Joyner setting it up. The Chapin offense then quickly moved deep in Red Fox territory, scoring on a 6 yard pass making it 42-24 with 5:22 left in the game. On the next Red Fox possession, Clair had another long run, leading to Jalen Jacobs 3 yard touchdown run making it 49-24.
Chapin's next possession ended with a fumble, and the Foxes ran out the clock. The Shug's Smokehouse Offensive Player of the Game was Steve Joyner with 4 catches for over a hundred yards and 2 touchdowns. The Shug's Smokehouse Defensive Player of the Game was DeMairius Cosom with one interception and 8 tackles. The Foxes will now play South Point, Saturday at noon, at Williams Brice Stadium in Columbia for the 4-A State Championship. Give the Foxes your support by going to Columbia to cheer them on.
