Red Foxes blitz Gators

By Coach Jimmy White

The Hartsville Red Foxes ended the regular season with a 36-6 win over the Lakewood Gators to go undefeated in region (4-0), 9-1 overall. After the Foxes raced out to a 28-0 lead in the first 8 minutes of the first quarter, while running only 4 plays on offense, officials began running a continuous clock with just over 3 minutes remaining in the quarter. After the opening kickoff to Gators, Hartsville’s defense showed its domination, forcing a punt that only carried to the 23 yard line.

On the first play, AJ Joyner dropped back and threw a perfect pass into the end zone to Steve Joyner for a quick touchdown. Miller Braddock added the first of his 5 extra points on the night for a 7-0 lead. Once again the Red Fox defense forced a punt and Jalen Evans blocked the punt and recovered it in the end zone making it 14-0 at the 8:39 mark.

After forcing another 3 and out punt, Tiyon Evans scored the first of his 2 touchdowns on a 2nd down 32 yard scamper into the end zone and the Foxes led 21-0. The Red Foxes regained possession and JC Clair ran 51 yards on the first play for another score making it 28-0. At that point it was decided to run the clock in order to shorten the one-sided game.

Lakewood threw an interception, hauled in by Demarius Cosom, and the Foxes had the ball on the Gator 10 yard line. Two plays later Evans scored from 3 yards out making it 35-0. Lakewood then had their highlight of the night when Lamont Dudley went 80 yards right up he middle for a touchdown. The Foxes’ Jalen Evans blocked the extra point making it 35-6.

The Gators executed a successful onside kick to regain possession, but a fumble on the first play gave the ball back to Hartsville. The Foxes drove to the Lakewood 7 yard line and with 2 seconds left before the half, Miller Braddock drilled a 23 yard field goal through the uprights for a 38-6 halftime lead. With a running clock, and 2nd unit players in the game, there was very little offensive production, and no points scored by either team.

Hartsville ended with only 196 yards of total offense, the lowest of the season. With a week off before playoffs coaches begin preparations for the playoffs. The Shug’s Smokehouse offensive player of the game was Jalen Jacobs who had 7 carries for 52 yards.

The Shug’s Smokehouse defensive player of the game was Logan Carpenter who had 6 tackles, 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Hartsville’s next game will be a home playoff game November 18th against an undetermined opponent. Let’s have a big crowd out to support the team.
