North Carolina is now offering coverage for approved obesity medication for children aged 12 years and above through Medicaid.
In the past, Medicaid coverage has not included medications specifically designed for weight loss.
These medications were modified due to the significant amount of weight loss they could cause.
This is being hailed as a game-changer by medical professionals.
Dr. Sarah Armstrong, the Chief of the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Health at Duke University, emphasized that the consequences of our beliefs and thoughts are real. She highlighted the risk of chronic complications and the impact on weight and health as the first things that we need to consider, regardless of our beliefs or thoughts.
Armstrong suggests that parents take their child to a pediatrician if they have any concerns about their weight.
