According to reports, President Joe Biden has shared his thoughts on potential running mates for Vice President Kamala Harris, stating that he has a preference for Governor Josh Shapiro (D-PA) and Governor Tim Walz (D-MN).

While remaining tight-lipped about his preferred choice for the vice presidential position, Biden stated on Friday that he would allow Harris to make that decision. Despite this, it is apparent that he has clear favorites behind the scenes, as a senior adviser revealed to CNN that Shapiro and Walz are his top choices.

According to an adviser, Biden holds Shapiro in high regard and considers himself a “big fan” of the political strategist. This is partly due to Shapiro’s assistance during the 2020 election, where he played a pivotal role in securing victories for the Democratic Party in a key swing state. Shapiro’s impressive record includes the successful defense of the state in 19 lawsuits before the election and more than 20 lawsuits filed after Election Day on November 3rd, which ultimately helped safeguard Biden’s triumph in the state.

The senior adviser expressed his admiration for Shapiro, but he revealed that he prefers Walz even more.

Ahead of a Philadelphia rally on Tuesday, Harris is expected to announce her running mate soon. The top contenders are currently undergoing their final interviews over the weekend. Along with the candidates mentioned by the Biden adviser, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Governor Andy Beshear (D-KY) are also considered as front-runners for the position.
