The Jaguar Foundation of Atlanta awarded the Jovita Moore HBCU Undergraduate Scholarship to a well-deserving student.
On Saturday, the scholarship was granted to Joi Ector, a freshman studying at Southern University and A&M College, by the foundation.
Tom Jones from Channel 2 served as the emcee for the event on Saturday night.
Jovita Moore, a beloved member of the Channel 2 Action News team since 1998, served as an advisory board member for the organization before her passing. Her dedication and contributions will always be remembered and greatly appreciated.
In the period spanning from 2010 until October 2021, Jovita served as the emcee of the program. Unfortunately, Jovita passed away in October 2021.
Jovita received a life-changing diagnosis in April 2021 when doctors detected two masses in her brain. Following surgery, she was diagnosed with glioblastoma, which is the most prevalent form of brain cancer.
Glioblastoma, unlike smoking which is a known cause of lung cancer, is not hereditary and its occurrence is not related to one’s diet or lifestyle.
At present, treatments are available to decelerate the progression of glioblastoma, but unfortunately, there is no known cure for this disease.
At the core of the Jaguar Foundation of Atlanta lies the noble goal of providing Atlanta area students with mentorship, inspiration, and financial support. The foundation is fully committed to this mission and works tirelessly to ensure that students receive the necessary guidance and resources to achieve their academic and personal goals.
Scholarships are offered to attend Southern University and A&M College, as well as other distinguished HBCU institutions, such as Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College.
