Paxton’s lead defence lawyer lambasted the procedures that resulted in the GOP-controlled Texas House impeaching the state’s top law enforcement in a lengthy statement posted Monday night.

Attorney Tony Buzbee issued a statement saying, “They had the chance to have Attorney General Paxton appear during their fake inquiry but declined to do so. “They are using state power in the Senate chamber as a weapon, which is terrible, illegal, and unprecedented.
Tuesday’s request for comment from a representative for the House management overseeing the impeachment was not promptly answered.
He Is Facing 20 Articles Of Impeachment
Republican Paxton is currently out of office while he faces 20 articles of impeachment, including allegations of bribery and abuse of authority. He is also the subject of an FBI investigation into claims that he used his position to benefit a donor. Last month, the donor was charged with making false statements in a federal court in Austin.
In addition, felony securities fraud allegations against Paxton from 2015 are currently pending trial. According to impeachment managers, he has maintained his innocence throughout the eight-year course of the process and has never taken a deposition.
