A woman who switched from never belching to doing so five to ten times a day has described how, at the age of 24, she was given the diagnosis of stage three colon cancer.
Bailey Mcbreen, 25, of Sarasota, Florida, had no idea that such a seemingly unremarkable event may have been a sign of such a fatal condition.
When the nurse went on vacation in 2021 with her fiancé, she noticed something wasn’t right. Despite the fact that she had never been able to burp before, the trip was ruined by her incessant belching, which occurred five to ten times every day.
She laughed with her partner about her sudden ability to expel gas, and after learning that a doctor had attributed it to anxiety, she concentrated entirely on organizing her ideal wedding.
What was once thought to be an embarrassing prank quickly changed into something far more deadly.
She continued to burp strangely and had a number of other unsettling symptoms, including nausea and vomiting.
Her symptoms began to worsen throughout the course of the following week. She was unable to swallow food due to intense abdominal pain, cramps, and nausea.

Burping as a Symptom of Colon Cancer in Young Adults
The two visited a hospital, where Bailey underwent a CT scan, at her mother’s insistence. A dreadful diagnosis would be given to her shortly after.
In less than ten minutes, Bailey said, I was informed that I had a lump on my colon and that, until proven otherwise, they thought it was colon cancer.
Bailey required another surgery to have a portion of her colon and several lymph nodes removed.
Additionally, she finished a 12-week course of chemotherapy, and now she is awaiting the findings to know what she should do next.
Since the cancer had already attached itself to her spleen, they were unable to remove it completely the first time and may need more treatment, such as radiotherapy.
Bailey is completely shocked by the abrupt turn of events. She mentioned that she had never thought of burping as a cancer symptom.
Bailey was informed by an oncologist that one of the most common symptoms of colon cancer in young individuals is burping.
Your body uses burping, also known as belching, to release extra air from your upper digestive tract.
Typically, a healthy person burps up to 30 times per day. However, several health issues could make you burp more frequently.
Although it is not a surefire sign of cancer, belching may be a sign of cancers of the digestive system.
