The White House stated on Monday that Iran was “actively facilitating” missile and drone attacks by Iranian-backed proxy groups against U.S. military bases in Iraq and Syria, and President Biden has ordered the Department of Defense to prepare for additional attacks and respond appropriately.

John Kirby, a spokesman for the White House, stated that there has been an increase in such attacks over the past week, particularly in the last few days, but that the United States will not allow challenges to its interests in the region to “go unchallenged.”

According to him, the United States believes these organizations are supported by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Iranian government, which continues to support Hamas and Hezbollah.

“We are aware that Iran is closely monitoring these events and, in some cases, actively facilitating these attacks and encouraging others who may wish to exploit the conflict for their own benefit or Iran’s,” he said.

There has been an increase in assaults on US forces since the conflict in Israel escalated on October 7, when Hamas militants attacked southern Israel.

Kirby stated, “We are gravely concerned about the possibility of a significant escalation of these attacks in the coming days.”

In the past two weeks, Biden has dispatched two aircraft carriers, other warships, and approximately 2,000 Marines to the Middle East.

“We recognize Iran’s desire to maintain plausible deniability in this situation, but we will not permit it,” Kirby stated. Also, we will not allow any threat to our regional interests to go unchallenged.
