Debbie Dickinson had her first hot flush in 2019. The 55-year-old claims, “I was at home and felt very confused.” “I had no idea what was happening to my body.

The menopause was “something” that I realized was happening after having an “ah-ha” moment. It made Debbie, a Miami, Florida resident, talk to older female relatives for guidance on how to best deal with the symptoms that occur both before and after a woman’s period ends, the latter of which normally occurs around the age of 51.

In the meantime, Debbie began to experiment with a variety of do-it-yourself solutions, such as opening her freezer and standing in front of it.

She claims that despite receiving useful advice, she still felt unprepared for this phase of her life. Because of ageism and stigma, there is a lack of knowledge and education regarding menopause, which is actually extremely normal.

Cooling the Way

Later that year, while having a hot flush in her car, Debbie came up with the concept for a portable gadget that might keep ladies cool. She was a former executive for the healthcare behemoth Johnson & Johnson and had many connections in the industry.

She collaborated with a group of engineers, biologists, and physicians to create a wristband and linked app called Thermaband after being able to acquire $1.5 million (£1.3 million) in financing.

Artificial intelligence software controls the bracelet, which monitors the wearer’s body temperature and may provide a cooling sensation if it detects a hot flush. Alternately, if necessary, it may also provide heat.

The series “New Tech Economy” examines how technological advancement is expected to influence the new, developing economic environment.

The bracelet also monitors heart rate and blood pressure, with all the information being presented on the app. The Thermaband is now anticipated to go on sale this year, with Debbie’s daughter Markea also assisting with company management
