According to a news statement from the West Virginia State Police, David Maynard, 54, was discovered at a Speedway in the Ohio River-adjacent West Virginia town of Ceredo.

Maynard was behind the counter when a sergeant who was passing by the petrol station recognised him.

Police said that Maynard aimed his gun at the sergeant while holding three hostages at the petrol station.

Before Maynard asked for a blanket to be put at the door for the third captive, a State Police Special Response Team was dispatched along with local law enforcement and a negotiator, who police claim successfully freed two hostages.

According to the press release, Maynard eventually “exited the door and engaged” law enforcement, who then started shooting at the suspect.

Maynard, of Ironton, Ohio, passed away at a local hospital as a result of his wounds. According to police, the third hostage had been securely secured, and no cops had been hurt.

No other information could be offered right away, according to the police.

When Ironton police responded to a complaint of gunfire on Friday, they discovered a 29-year-old woman bound with cords and Maynard’s 78-year-old stepfather dead, according to WSAZ. This discovery led to a multistate manhunt for Maynard.

Officials claim that while on the run, Maynard kidnapped two ladies at different locations in Kentucky, stole both of their automobiles, and one of the victims was able to escape and phone 911 after driving to safety.
