Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott might endorse former President Donald Trump for the nomination by the Republican Party in 2024 when the two meet on Sunday close to the US.

Given that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, one of Trump’s GOP primary opponents, and the Republican governor of Texas have a long history of friendship, the endorsement would be extremely beneficial to the Trump campaign.

According to a source, the trip is being referred to as an official state visit, as Trump along with Abbott will make an appearance together while talking about their future strategies for reducing illegal immigration.

The US border with Mexico has been the target of criticism in recent days due to the policies adopted by both parties, as the ongoing migration wave has put tremendous strain on national and local resources.

As the conservative governor prepared for reelection in 2021 and faced numerous primary challenges from the right, Trump endorsed Abbott.

Before easily defeating Democratic opponent and former congressman Beto O’Rourke in November of last year to win a third term leading Texas, Abbott won reelection in March of last year with a resounding victory.

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott might endorse former President Donald Trump for the nomination by the Republican Party in 2024 when the two meet on Sunday close to the US.

According to people close to the governor, Abbott was appreciative of Trump’s early endorsement in the previous cycle and might repay the favor.

Trump, who is running for president for the third time, is the overwhelming favorite to win the Republican nomination in 2024, alongside Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as well as former UN Ambassador along with former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley trailing in the polls.

The contentious issues of illegal immigration and border security will be brought to light by the former president’s visit to Texas to meet with Abbott close to the border.

Republican voters have long been concerned about this issue, and for the past 2.5 years, President Biden’s administration has come under heavy fire from GOP leaders and politicians due to the spike in migrant border crossings.
